Privacy & Light Control
From sheer to blackout, there’s something for everyone.
Beyond adding style to your space, window treatments give your room the privacy and light control that make it a comfortable sanctuary all day and night.
Every window treatment offers at least some light control and privacy. Let’s look at the options so you can choose the products with the privacy level that’s right for your space.
By layering with drapery or choosing one of our versatile coverage options, you can mix and match light control and privacy for the most control of the light in your space.
Blinds
Our blinds offer different slat or louver sizes that affect how clearly you can see outdoors when the blind is open. The larger sizes provide a better view.
Cloth tapes and route hole-free options improve privacy and light control by covering or eliminating the route holes on blinds—the small holes on the slats where the connecting cords run through.
Fabric Window Coverings
Most of our fabric window treatments use the language of opacity, or how easy it is to see through the shade when it’s lowered all the way.
Every shade product offers at least two light control and opacity options, either through liners or through the fabrics themselves.

Sheer & Light Filtering
Shades and drapery made with sheer fabric offer the least privacy. However, dark fabrics can still darken a room, while light fabrics can lend their hue to the space. The color of your window treatment may also look darker or lighter depending on the sunlight each day and throughout the evening.
Light filtering fabrics offer a bit more privacy than sheer, but shapes can still be seen through the window treatment from the outdoors.
Bali Sheer & Layered Shades are a popular choice for sheer and light filtering shades. Bali Solar Shades are another great choice when you’re looking to enjoy natural light and privacy is not a concern.
Room Darkening & Blackout
Room darkening fabrics offer moderate privacy and significantly dim natural light coming into the space. Blackout fabrics offer complete privacy and block all natural light coming through the fabric. Some light may still be seen around the sides of your shade.
For total darkness, layering a shade with drapery in a blackout liner is recommended.
